Pre-Vocational Day-Hab Without Walls
Providing training and work experience for adults with mild to severe mental retardation, these programs, certified by the U.S. Department of Labor and the N.Y.S. Office of Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities, enable its participants to become productive individuals and, where appropriate, to access opportunities for outside employment.
All participants, supervised by vocational trainers, work each weekday on manual skills projects such as collating or assembling. When appropriate, participants also train at community based work sites such as restaurants, day care centers, senior centers, hospitals, and soup kitchens to aquire skills necessary for accessing xxxxxx. They are paid in accordance with the Labor Department's Wage & Salary Administration guidelines. Periodic diagnostic evaluations are completed by professional staff, and a service coordinator monitors each participant's progress.
The programs are enhanced by nutritional guidance, exercise breaks, recreational and Greenhouse activities, and individual and group counseling.
Volunteers from the community and from local high school outreach programs are welcome. Inquiries are invited from companies which might provide contract work, or are interested in extending work, training and employment opportunities to participants.
