From a single group home, opened in 1970, GEC's Residential Services Program now includes 16 facilities nestled in quiet southwest Brooklyn neighborhoods, which provide comfortable, tasteful and safe homes and apartments with staffing levels appropriate to residents' needs:
Intermediate Care Facilities (ICF's) For severely to profoundly mentally retarded adults, ICF's provide comprehensive direct care through 24 hour staffing, backed by clinical staff in compliance with Medicaid regulations.
Community Residences (CR's) For moderately retarded adults, CR's also feature round-the-clock staffing, but at a less intensive level than ICF's.
Individual Residence Alternatives (IRA's) For persons enrolled under the Home and Community Based Services (HCBS) Waiver. Staffing varies according to individual needs.
Supportive Apartments For mildly retarded adults able to care for themselves with minimal assistance. Staff is on call 24 hours each day.
The Goal of GEC's Residential Services is to enhance the health, security and independence of all residents through community interaction and individually tailored programs in a warm, supportive home environment.
