Comprising both Day Treatment and Day Habilitation, the goal of these services is to guide each participant toward his or her highest level of independence by developing self-care, communication and social skills, community awareness and employment readiness. Round-trip transportation is provided to all participants as needed.
Day Treatment: Clinically-oriented services for adults with severe to profound mental retardation. The program focuses on development of practical skills for independent living and social interaction, tailored to each participant's capacity. Services include: medical/nursin;, occupational, physical and speech therapy; psychology; social work; routine lab work; dental exams;, audio and visual screenings; medical referrals and recommendations for follow-up treatment.
Day Habilitation: A step beyond Day Treatment, "Day Hab" brings participants into the community, offering assistance to local organizations in areas of their own choice, from senior citizen centers and hospitals, to neighborhood clean-up campaigns.
GEC welcomes inquiries from local groups who seek volunteer assistance for their programs.
